Jordan Ivey, LCSW, MSW
Welcome!
I’m Jordan, the founder of Self-Connection Counseling. I am a fifth-generation Coloradan; I was born and raised in Denver, spent my college years in Middlebury, Vermont, and then came right back to Denver in 2016 to start adulthood in the town I love the most!
A lot of life has happened since then: I was a 7th grade teacher for a few years, adopted a very anxious dog, enjoyed a lot of Colorado sunshine, saw some great Red Rocks shows, got married, and became a full-time therapist and crisis counselor.
I come from a big, loud, multi-generational Colorado family. This is where I learned my deep love of connecting with people and where I honed my natural skills of curiosity and empathy. Being a part of a large family system brings me joy, laughter, and challenge; it has taught me how to navigate complex relational dynamics, embrace distinct personalities, and practice vulnerability with others.
I have always been drawn to connecting with other humans and creating strong relationships. In fact, I’m still friends with people I met back in kindergarten; I pride myself on having many lifelong friendships! I love those big, late-night conversations with friends where we get into the “nitty-gritty” of our family dynamics, relationships, and emotions.
This wiring naturally led me to a career in counseling. I bring those same qualities of curiosity, empathy, and warmth to my clients. I strive to create a space where clients feel free to express their innermost thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment- a space where people can show up as their full, beautiful, messy, human, authentic selves- and where I can, too!
If you are considering reaching out for my services, please know that I feel incredibly grateful to be a healing partner on your journey towards emotional wellbeing. It is truly the honor of a lifetime to be a therapist.

Why Work with Me?
I believe that YOU are the expert in your own healing. My job as your therapist is to collaborate with you, listen to you, and guide you on the path to uncovering your most aligned self. I work hard create a therapeutic space where you can be fully vulnerable and honest. Through treatment, I will help you get to the root of your challenges, explore your emotions and values, and gain new insight into who you are.
My therapeutic style is warm, relational, and collaborative. I utilize a mix of evidence-based interventions in my practice. Through our work together, I will guide you in the process of deep self-inquiry to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of you and your unique history. I will teach you skills to foster awareness and acceptance of your emotions. We will dig deep into the underlying needs that drive your feelings and behaviors. I will also incorporate mindfulness and self-compassion practices into your treatment to help you with emotional and nervous system regulation.
A core aspect of my approach is relational and attachment-focused therapy— using the therapeutic relationship to uncover patterns and dynamics that shape how you engage with yourself and others. This means that we get really curious about how your relationships have impacted you— your identity, your sense of safety, your connections to others, your boundaries— and we explore how those patterns are showing up for you in the present. Through this exploration, you will develop an authentic and attuned relationship with yourself, which will then allow you to present your most aligned, connected, and compassionate self to the world. You will also gain the agency to build healthy and secure relationships.
The results? Clients have often told me that working together has transformed the way they view themselves and has provided them with the necessary tools to live a more fulfilling life.
What to Expect
During our first few sessions together, I will conduct a comprehensive assessment to further understand your history and needs. We will then collaborate to identify your targeted treatment goals that will guide your care.
Then, the true work begins! In addition to providing a listening ear, you can expect me to provide insight into patterns of thinking and behaving, uncover underlying emotional and relational needs that are contributing to these patterns, and give you tangible strategies to improve your relationships and regulate your nervous system— all while emphasizing your unique abilities and strengths.
Spending one hour a week with a trusted and skilled therapist can transform your relationship with others and with yourself. If you are ready to begin your healing journey, reach out to me today.
Statement on Anti-Oppressive Care
In the work that I do with clients, I am committed to providing anti-oppressive care that is rooted in social justice. While I use a variety of evidence-based and trauma-informed techniques in my practice, I am also a therapist who centers your lived experiences by prioritizing your unique voice, validating your reality, and utilizing culturally-sensitive approaches to create a safe space for you to explore your story and identity. I also utilize a systems framework, meaning that our work together will acknowledge how systemic inequalities inherently impact your wellbeing and experiences.
I am dedicated to ongoing self-reflection and learning about how systems impact my clients with marginalized identities. Through this continuous education, I actively work to challenge my own privileges and biases in order to provide equitable and empowering therapy for all.
